About the role
As a Staff SDET, you’ll play an important role in ensuring we produce high quality software solutions that solve customer and user problems. You will be joining a specific Product team initially to design and implement a Test Automation Strategy, with the potential to collaborate with other Product teams as needed.
The Staff SDET’s aim is to formulate the right Automation Test Strategy and write robust, comprehensive automated tests at all levels of the Testing Pyramid – from Unit Tests (if required), through Component Integration tests all the way to back-end API and front end E2E tests. You will also play a key role in helping define the future BigHand Automation Strategy and coaching/upskilling the QA team in automated testing.
The successful Staff SDET will have good Stakeholder communication, a professional attitude and work ethic, along with an advanced understanding and experience of key Test Automation tools. You will demonstrate a keen passion to learn and implement new technology and processes. The outcome will be to help define the Automation Strategy and Frameworks from a strategic, as well as tactical perspective.
What you’ll do
- Defines and implements Automation Test Strategy in collaboration with QA Manager.
- Takes ownership for ensuring Test Automation implemented at all Test Levels by team to deliver high quality software.
- Writes automated Component Integration, API and E2E tests where necessary, whilst building and maintaining a Regression Test library that eliminates/minimises manual regression testing.
- Collaborates closely with Developers and Product Owners to design automated tests using a BDD approach – advocating and championing test automation as a fundamental component of the development lifecycle.
- Self manages and coordinates test schedules, work and resource plans to ensure progress of all test automation activities against plan.
- Utilises Metrics to understand impact, effectiveness and coverage of the automated tests, to meet good practice as defined by key DORA metrics.
- Proactively develops their skill and competence in both the products and test process/tools for continuous improvement.
- Mentors/supports and develops fellow team members in writing high quality Automation tests, including Automation QAs as well as Developers.
What we’re looking for
- Software Development background or coding experience preferred.
- Advanced understanding of automation frameworks, technology and Testing processes.
- Strong experience in C#, .NET, Specrunner and Specflow.
- Good understanding of Testing Metrics and reporting.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with SCRUM, Agile and BDD.
- A pragmatic approach to solving problems with a critical thinking mindset.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience in coaching/mentoring Automation QAs.
- Ability to identify Automation tasks, dependencies or risks during backlog grooming/planning.
- Working with Web Services.
- Implementing component and integration tests for new software components.
- Writing automated API and E2E tests from scratch.
